Premium Hojari is our therapeutic grade: the resin carefully selected from each harvest to ensure the highest quality, suitable for therapeutic use and internal consumption. Known among Omani harvesters as Dhakar, it is distinguished by a green tinge to its colour, an invigorating scent, outstanding purity and a rich concentration of natural essential oils and boswellic acids.

Beyond burning as incense, it is traditionally chewed or infused in water. It has also long been used as an insect repellent.

Grown in the mountain ranges of the Dhofar region of Oman, Premium Hojari resin comes from native Boswellia sacra trees.

We supply Premium Hojari to both retail and wholesale customers. For retail, we offer pouches in three sizes: 40g, 150g and 400g.

Delivery cost is shown at checkout. Spend £50 or more and standard delivery is free.

For wholesale and bulk orders, see our wholesale page or email info@theascentstore.com.

Instructions for internal consumption

1. Take a small, pea-sized piece of resin and rinse it with clean water. This can be chewed or infused in water.

2. Add the resin to a vessel of water and let it infuse for at least 6 hours — overnight works best — stirring occasionally. The quantity of water is a matter of preferred concentration, but a minimum of 500ml is advisable.

3. Strain the water and drink within 7 days. Any residual resin can be re-infused with fresh water and the process repeated, though the concentration will reduce each time.

Frankincense can also be used topically by dissolving a piece in warm water and gently dabbing the infused liquid onto the skin.

Caution: this product is not a medicine and is not intended to diagnose, treat or cure any condition. Always consult a healthcare professional about any illness, and do not consume frankincense in large quantities.

How to burn frankincense resin

1. Place a heat-resistant burner on a safe, stable surface.

2. Light a charcoal disc until it glows red and place it in the burner for approximately 5 to 10 minutes.

3. Once the charcoal is hot and has turned grey, place small pieces of resin on top and let it release its fragrant smoke.

4. Rotate the resin on the coal to avoid over-burning, and move the burner around your space.

Caution: never leave burning incense unattended, and always ensure there is good ventilation.

Choosing between the grades

Hojari is our incense grade: the classic resin, burned on charcoal for a fresh, sweet, citrus-bright smoke.

Hojari Dhakar is our therapeutic grade: the green-tinged resin selected from the top of each harvest, with a higher concentration of essential oils. Traditionally chewed or infused in water as well as burned.
